Magical Maui Nuptials

It was love at first sight for Sarah and Brett…with Maui! After visiting Hawaii together for the first time years earlier, the couple knew they would eventually say “I do” on this little piece of paradise. When the couple broached the subject with their guests, their loved ones’ reactions were what Sarah and Brett had hoped for. “Everyone was thrilled. It was a great excuse for a trip!”

Living stateside, the couple did the majority of their research online and, thankfully, found the perfect venue for their big day. “We found Kukahiko Estate [and] our original date wasn’t available, so we picked another day…who cares if you get married on a Tuesday?” says the bride. “In Maui, every day is a perfect day.” Being flexible with their date was a good sign as to how this couple would handle the wedding planning process.

“It was fun and honestly quite easy,” recalls Sarah. “We were very flexible as far as the details were concerned and our wedding planner, Shane, did all the work! He also helped us choose what I call the ‘Dream Team’ of Maui wedding vendors.” According to the couple, hiring a wedding planner was one of the best decisions they made.

“Hire a wedding planner. It was worth every penny to us to not have to worry about any of the details. Our planner not only created a gorgeous party for us, he helped to make sure every guest was looked after, too.” Sarah and Brett were not only satisfied with their wedding planner, but their entire wedding’s vendors. “We ‘met’ all of our vendors through email and it was a breeze,” says the bride. “They were all truly the utmost professionals and lovely to work with in every sense.”

Come wedding week, the couple was joined in Maui by their nearest and dearest for a quintessentially “Hawaiian” event. The couple and their guests enjoyed breathtaking views, perfect weather and aloha hospitality. For the ceremony, Sarah and Brett kept the décor to a minimum, opting to let the ocean and lava rock surroundings set the tone. A wise decision, if you ask us!

When asked how a hometown wedding would have differed from her Maui destination wedding, Sarah has no regrets. “I probably would have tried to do a lot more myself and it would have been more stressful in that sense. We [also] wouldn’t have had the beautiful Maui setting.” Not surprisingly, the couple advices flexibility and calm in the wake of your own wedding away.

“Relax and enjoy your day with your guests. Many have made concessions to travel with you and it’s a very special honor. It goes by in a blur, so try to find a moment and catch your breath!”
