Intimate Destination Wedding in Jamaica

Matt and Mariel were together for 6 years before Matt popped the question. The result of an already lengthy love affair was a very short engagement. The couple always knew they wanted a Caribbean destination wedding and when she said yes, Matt had a travel agent on stand by. The agent’s instructions: a great beach, no hassle and as few people as possible.

Fast forward five months and Matt, Mariel and 50 of their closest friends and family landed in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. The couple described the planning process as stress-free because of the small guest count and limited details.

The long weekend getaway consisted of hours of beach volleyball, a sailboat trip around the island and a bonfire that lit up the white-sand beach. What made the occasion most special for the couple was who they were surrounded by—only those people in their lives they literally couldn’t live without.

While the bride and groom’s attire was primarily neutral, the Jamaican locale provided pops of color. Turquoise water, lush greenery and the royal blue walls of the Jamaica Inn brightened up the entire affair.

The beach ceremony was as laid back as the rest of the weekend. The ceremony was a barefoot, quick 15 minutes at sunset. The changing colors in the evening sky were reflected in guests’ bright orange umbrellas. After the I-Do’s, Mariel ran back up the aisle, high-fiving guests as she went.

The reception was an intimate affair with bench seating and large tables right on the beach. A traditional Jamaican band played well into the early morning hours. Guests danced the night away and it was an evening no one is soon to forget.

Joy and love radiated throughout the weekend and was reflected in the 1,200 plus photos taken. I had a difficult time picking only a handful. We at Destination I Do would like to send a big thank you to Mariel and Matt for sharing their intimate and beautiful destination wedding with us.
