Perfect DIY Save the Dates For Your Destination WeddingWords by Courtney Kellar Words by Courtney Cox

I’m not engaged, but looking at the beautiful weddings we feature at Destination I Do day after day, I can’t help but secretly and subconsciously plan my own wedding. That’s how I came up with this cute save the date idea that I think will be perfect for destination brides. Seeing as how many of our DIY brides served as my inspiration, it seemed only fair that I share my idea with all of you.
These luggage tags serve multiple purposes. First, they let your family and friends know to mark their calendars for your big day. For most destination weddings, guests fly in from all over the country and even the world. Your personalized luggage tags allow guests to know if they’re unknowingly traveling with another member of your wedding party. This way guests can get to know each other before they even arrive at your destination.
Your destination venue will do anything and everything to make sure your stay goes off without a hitch. So, why not make their job a little easier? If all your guests have the same adorable luggage tags, the destination staff will know exactly what bags belong together. I also included on my example tags a place where guests can mark “friend of the bride” or “friend of the groom.” If, for example, you and your future hubby rented separate bungalows for your own guests, the bellmen will know what bags go where.
A lot of destination brides pride themselves on creating a unique and cohesive look and theme for their wedding. Why not start things off in style? The save the dates will be your guests’ first look into what they can expect from your wedding. So, forget the traditional and allow your personality and style to shine through. These cute luggage tags will get your guests excited for your big event and also serve as a keepsake after it’s all over and done with.
Aside from all these helpful aspects, they’re just plain cute! These save the date luggage tags were relatively easy to make and substantially cheaper than if you were to order them to be professionally made. My friend Niki not only lent me her wedding date, but helped me make the tags. Between the two of us, it didn’t take us long to make all four tags. If a bride got all her bridesmaids together to help make these save the dates it likely wouldn’t take long at all.
I got almost all of my materials out of the dollar bin at my local craft store. The craft paper is less than a dollar a sheet. Total, each of these tags cost well under a dollar each to make. I’ve seen professionally printed save the dates cost as much as 12 dollars a piece.
Making your own will save you money, allow you to design exactly what you want and, most importantly, have fun! I hope this idea has perhaps inspired an idea and look of your own. Don’t be afraid to play around with shape, texture and 3-D elements. Happy crafting!
