The Weather Plays Tricks at This Real Playa Del Carmen WeddingWords by Courtney Kellar Words by Courtney Cox

Kerri and Chris knew they wanted a destination wedding after attending a friend's wedding last year in Jamaica. Playa Del Carmen was the fit for this couple and the they tied the knot in stormy Mexico. Previous to the ceremony, the weather had been beautiful, but as Kerri and Chris prepared to say "I do" the sky opened up and the Caribbean drops rained down.
Luckily, their photographer got creative and captured some beautiful night-time, post-storm shots. While not traditional, the pictures capture the couple's playful personalities. At least the the sun shone previous to the ceremony so the many guests could enjoy the Mexican sol.
The couple had support in spades, with 11 bridesmaids (really!) and eight groomsmen. The bridesmaids exuded "destination wedding" with barefaced bikini lines and short, tropical-looking dresses. The groom and groomsmen were smart casual in khakis and sand colored flip-flops.
Kerri and Chris continued the Caribbean color scheme throughout their wedding. The venue, Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda, provided inspiration and a beautiful, turquoise blue gift bag welcomed the couple's guests upon arrival. The vibrant tropical flowers popped against the day's overcast skys, setting a joyous tone.
The unpredictable weather didn't rain on this couple's parade--er ceremony. Kerri and Chris kissed and exhanged vows under a white-washed, outdoor veranda. They opted out of a traditional ceremonial set-up and commited to each other surrounded by their closest friends and family--literally.
After the ceremony, the festivities moved indoors and the tradtional activities took place under a high, thatched roof. The bouquet toss, cake-cutting and garter removal all led into a long night of dancing. This couple's ability to roll with the punches is surely a sign of a long and successful marriage.
While Chris and Kerri may have originally been inspired by a friend's desstination wedding, they made this event all their own. Perhaps their wedding will inspire others to head south of the border for their big day. Thanks for sharing!
