Flowers are no doubt a central part of most weddings, brides spend hours pondering peonies, poppies and plumerias. However, brides sometimes forget that the design of their bouquet – not just the flowers they choose to construct it – can be an instrumental part in their overall wedding day look.
There are several different options for bouquet shapes and sizes and what’s best varies from bride to bride. For example, the type of bouquet which will fit you best may depend on your body type or design of your wedding dress.
Carl Schwartz from Carl Alan Floral Design has over 15 years experience owning his own floral business and has made thousands of bouquets. He works with brides to determine which bouquet shape will work best with her body type and wedding dress style. Having a destination wedding can also influence your bouquet style.
Most brides have a solid idea of what they what their down and flowers to look like long before the time comes to commit. However, it’s important that two design aspects work together in order to pull off a cohesive and complimentary wedding look. Carl has come up with some examples of flattering partnerships between brides and bouquets.
Taller bride in a mermaid dress with a waterfall bouquet
For the taller bride in a form fitting gown, a sphere shaped hand tied bouquet works the best. A taller bride in a mermaid gown can carry a tailored waterfall bouquet to accentuate the shape of their gown and their height.
Curvy bride in a ball style gown with a classic round bouquet
For the curvy bride in a ball style gown, a round classic bouquet consisting of globe like flowers (roses, ranunculus, hydrangea ect.) will complement the overall style.
Petite bride in an A-line gown with a free form gathering of smaller blooms
For the petite bride in an A-line or empire style gown, a free form gathering of smaller blooms works best (mini callas, sweetheart roses, delphinium, spray orchids, freesia, stephanotis etc.).
