This Real-Life Destination Bride Shares Her Success Story

I’m always interested to see how women react once they’re put into that once-in-a-lifetime role of bride. Women invariably respond differently – some with detail like precision and others with a laidback, hands-off style. Jaci fell into the latter category. It became evident in her responses to our questions about her gorgeous British Virgin Islands destination wedding that she was calm, cool and collected throughout the planning process.

Her and D.J. said “I do” in Mahoe Bay, BVI in front of 35 friends and loved ones. The couple knew they wanted to start their life together as husband and wife in the Caribbean before they were even engaged. “The first time we ever really talked about marrying each other was on a trip to the Caribbean and we both realized that, as cheesy as it may sound, the Caribbean was where our hearts belonged,” says Jaci.

The couple’s main goal for the big day? NO stress. As anyone who has every planned a wedding can attest to, this is easier said than done. But, fortunately D.J. and Jaci had a plan. “The best way we knew to accomplish this was to get our closest friends and family members away from home, together for many days prior to the wedding day and have a barefoot wedding on the beach,” says the couple.

One of the most important factors when planning their wedding was finding a place where everyone could stay together. Aquamare Estate was the answer with a 5 acre property, three 10,000 square-foot homes, a housekeeping staff and private concierge services. I’m sure Jaci and D.J.’s loved ones would have had a hard time not relaxing!

It’s important to note that Jaci and D.J. didn’t plan their dream wedding day alone. The couple is quick to credit their planner Tiina Tigane with Occasions BVI and the property rental company, Luxury Retreats, with helping their nuptials be an unquestionable success. Jaci gave approval to ideas from home in Washington state and let the experts do the rest. “I never stressed about anything because I knew that the most important thing to me – getting married on the beach surrounded by my best friends and closest family – was taken care of,” Jaci said. “Everything else was just icing on the cake.”

The couple says that having their dream destination wedding was more expensive than a hometown wedding, but worth every penny. “It was a dream six-day vacation capped off with the most magical wedding on the beach,” Jaci says. “I’m 100% confident that our wedding day would have been exponentially more stressful had we gotten married close to home.”

It’s not easy to be as laid-back as Jaci, which is why a lot of brides feel the need to be involved in every aspect of the planning process. (This is how I would be seeing as how I’m a self-professed control freak!) No matter what “kind” of destination bride you are, just keep the true meaning within your sights – you’re soon going to marrying the man of your dreams!

Jaci shares similar words of encouragement and stresses what details were most important to her on W-day. “Forget what is normal, forget whatever you’ve heard from your family or friends, just get married when and where you want to. Also, never underestimate the value of three things: your wedding dress, the photographer and the location!”
