Rebecca and Matt had a stunning seaside destination wedding full of sunsets, dancing and congratulatory kisses. The couple along with their closest friends and family traveled to North Carolina for the wedding event of their lives. It was important to Rebecca and Matt that they get married somewhere special and with great significance.
Frisco, North Carolina was a favorite of Rebecca’s late father, so where better to start a life together? Originally some of the couple’s nearest and dearest weren’t too keen on making the trek, but they eventually all saw the wedding as an opportunity to really spend quality time together as a family. The couple turned their wedding into a full-on vacation/family reunion.
“We decided to rent an oceanfront house for a week and host the wedding and reception there,” says the couple. “We then encouraged our family members to stay for as long as they wanted. Many ended up renting their own houses and staying the entire week.”
The couple created a wedding web site where they listed information on how to reach their wedding destination, information on rental cars and anything else their guests may have needed on the road. When the guests did arrive, they found a welcome basket worthy of a king waiting for them. There were homemade treats like muffins and cookies, bumper stickers, beach toys and information about local attractions.
Come W-day everyone dressed to impress – including the wedding party! Rebecca wore a beautiful Saja wedding gown which fit the laid back wedding locale. Matt looked dapper and comfortable in a suit by Banana Republic. I love the bridesmaids’ styling with bright pink J Crew dresses and turquoise accessories.
This wedding was truly DIY. The couple decorated their oceanfront rental themselves the day of the wedding for their reception. The couple strung lights and paper lanterns from the home’s enormous oceanfront decks. They had a blast making room for all their loved ones to come celebrate and dance the night away.
In the end, the couple and their guests couldn’t have been more pleased with how the entire event turned out. Instead of being a day filled with nerves and complicated scheduling, Rebecca and Matt got a beautiful sunset ceremony sans stress.
“For us, having a destination wedding also helped to take away some of the stress of planning a wedding,” says the couple. “We looked at it as both a wedding and a vacation – which really kept us focused on staying relaxed and having fun.”
The couple is not only a supporter of destination weddings in general, but of beach weddings specifically. “Holding a wedding at the beach provides a spectacular backdrop that requires little decoration,” says the couple. This could not be more true and is proved in the couple’s gorgeous W-day photos with nothing but the sunset and sea.
