This Real-Life New Jersey Couple Took Their Nuptials to FloridaWords by Courtney Kellar Words by Courtney Cox

Susie was the last of her three sisters to get married, so she wanted to make sure her wedding was a party that her entire family would enjoy. The destination for her and her fiancé was St. Pete’s Beach, Florida. “We wanted a romantic destination, something on the beach at sunset with our close family and friends there to celebrate with us,” says Susie. “We didn’t want to go too far so Florida seemed like the perfect spot.”
The couple hails from New Jersey and didn’t have a hard time convincing their loved ones to make the trek down south in November. Just in case, the couple created a “Save the Date” video, with the help of Wonderworks Film and Video, to get their guests excited about their destination wedding. I love this idea and the final product is pretty darn adorable. You can see the couple’s “Save the Date” video here.
The couple flew down to their destination in advance to scout out potential venues. It was love at first sight for this couple and the Don CeSar Beach Resort and Spa. “Our first stop was the Don CeSar and I couldn’t help but feel butterflies in my stomach,” says Susie. “I wanted a romantic vintage-styled wedding, something that wouldn’t be forgotten and the Don CeSar has a history of romance.”
Susie was a hands-on bride and says that Ron was an exciting and active part of the planning process from the beginning. Susie created a “What Our Wedding Will Look Like” book and took it with her everywhere. She cut out ideas from magazines and the book held inspiration for the w-day hair, gown, guest favors and potential honeymoon destinations - to name a few.
“When I look back, [the book] was the best visual tool I had with me,” Susie says. “When I would go to stores or vendors I could show them my vision and that would help them make my wedding as perfect as possible.”
Also in Susie and Ron’s book of ideas were a lot of do-it-yourself projects. The couple created place settings made up of a small card with a dime attached. The idea was that the guests would take their dimes and toss them into the Don CeSar Resort’s famous fountain. The card read: “Sue & Ron wish us happiness, love and laughter, then throw this coin in the fountain for your own happily ever after…”
The couple admits that their destination wedding cost more than if they had gotten married back home in New Jersey, but have no regrets. “Having a destination wedding was different because we had three days to celebrate with all of our guests,” says the couple. “Although it increased the price, those memories of laying by the pool the Sunday after the wedding with our closest family and friends are priceless!”
