Destination Wedding Costa Rica: A Couple's Dream Come TrueWords by Courtney Kellar Words by Courtney Cox

Today’s real destination wedding is so special it couldn’t wait for a “Wedding Wednesday” or “Destination Couples Dish” Friday. Graham and Ever were a couple who knew exactly what they wanted from day one and made all the right moves to ensure their W-day dreams came true. The couple had previously visited Santa Teresa, Costa Rica “where the waves are epic for surfing and the relaxed beach atmosphere is ideal for weddings.”
Thanks to Aimee Monihan with Tropical Occasions, Graham and Ever treated their 50 guests to a “magical and whimsical event.” The couple was heavily involved throughout the process by sending pictures of floral choices, table settings and runners and lighting so they would have the wedding they envisioned. The bride, Graham, has words of advice for when it comes time to choose your vendors.
“I would suggest interviewing your possible choices for a wedding planner as you will most likely not be able to taste the wine and food, see the flowers, or hear your band before the wedding. A lot of people will try to talk you into what they think you want to hear, but do your research.”
The couple’s guests were met with a handmade experience from the start in the form of hand-sketched canvas welcome bags. The bags featured the groom in swim trunks and a bow tie and the bride in a bikini and veil. Inside were practical items which had been locally purchased to add a “unique flair.”
The couple’s ceremony and reception took place at the most beautiful house in Santa Teresa, Casa Capitan. The sunset beach ceremony was followed by a romantic and captivating reception on the house’s grounds. “The hanging lights and votives mixed perfectly with the surrounding palm fronds and myriad of strategically arranged Cali lily, orchid and hydrangea arrangements – all done in corresponding colors of white and green,” says Graham.
The couple had some seriously unique touches for their reception and they didn’t go unnoticed by their guests. Graham and Ever, who admit to an obsession with their dogs, had signature cocktails named after their favorite pooches Cole and Blue: the Colejito and Blue Lagoon. The drinks were served in fresh coconuts and next to framed photos of the namesakes themselves.
In lieu of wedding favors for their guests, the couple donated $10 to a charity of their guests’ choice. Graham and Ever chose three different charities (a local school, an environmental cause and an animal shelter) and had their guests place a custom-made coaster in a bowl for the charity of their choice. The couple’s friends and family were asked to write some well wishes or words of advice on the coasters before placing them in one of the bowls.
Ever and Graham had a clear vision for how they wanted to celebrate the start of their life together as man and wife and did all they could to make sure their expectations were met. The bride, Graham summed things up best. “I can honestly say the wedding was perfect and everyone who joined us to celebrate experienced just what I wanted them to, an intimate wedding the exuded sheer magic!”
