It’s not uncommon for destination wedding couples to be seasoned travelers. That is precisely the case with Kisha and Jason. Traveling was their favorite thing to do together, so when they got engaged it was a simple decision for them to have a destination wedding. The next step was deciding where to hold their big day.
After many months of planning, the couple found themselves in Guanacaste, Costa Rica with their closest family and friends. “We chose the Four Seasons Costa Rica mainly because it was the location of our first trip together three years before our wedding date, so there was definitely sentimental value,” says Kisha. “We wanted to get married somewhere that meant something to us as a couple. Also, it really helped that this destination was a short, nonstop flight from Houston!”
The couple did a great job accommodating their guests and ensuring that they had a stress-free time in Costa Rica. “We made sure that the resort gave us a very competitive group deal on room rates,” says Kisha. “We also chose a date during the low season so that rooms and airline tickets would be readily available.”
While the planning process ended up being relatively smooth, the first few weeks of planning were stressful for Kisha. She had underestimated the difficulty of the language barrier and quickly went in search of reinforcements. Her help came in the form of a wedding coordinator from Weddings Costa Rica. They helped the bride find her vendors and tailor her vision for her big day.
“One of the things that helped most in sorting my ideas was the color palette and questionnaire that Weddings Costa Rica sent me prior to finalizing my theme,” says Kisha. “[Jason and I] knew we wanted it to reflect our love of travel, but when [Weddings Costa Rica] asked who my favorite author was – everything fell into place. Hemingway’s style was, of course, a perfect complement to by theme.”
The final result was stunning and was a beautiful mix of elegant bridal décor and a warm ambiance. The table names were inspired by the couple’s favorite destinations and vintage compasses were unique favors for the couple’s guests. Kisha has some final words of advice for other couples planning their own destination wedding.
“The most important thing is to plan your special day as a couple and to make sure it reflects who you are together! Don’t get caught up in the stress of the situation and forget to have fun. Also, remember that your favorite memories will probably be the things that went wrong!”
