Mexico is, without a doubt, one of the most popular spots for destination weddings. Many couples choose this exotic locale because of the gorgeous beaches, stunning sunsets and unique culture. If a traditional registry isn’t your aim, consider giving back to the country you so obviously love. Real Resorts, one of the most popular resort chains south of the border, has recently joined forces with the City of Joy Foundation to help make your dreams of giving back a reality.
Take your union to another level by helping a local child in need. Through the resort you can work with the City of Joy Foundation (Fundacion Ciudad de la Alegria) to create a Legacy Gift Fund to help educate a child in need. One of the foundation’s missions is the Mano Amiga School for Children. The school offers kindergarten through high school and helps to educate more than 1,300 children a year whose families have an annual income of less than $450 per month.
The cost of educating one student at Mano Amiga School is $25 USD per month. In lieu of favors, your guests will be touched by your efforts to help local children by donating instead to this worthy cause. Couples who donate receive a commemorative plaque in their honor signed by student representatives and a letter twice a year from a sponsored student. If you would like, you also have the option of visiting the school which your donation will benefit.
Fernando Garcia, the Managing Director of Real Resorts, has seen positive feedback since implementing this partnership. “I cannot think of a more worthwhile way to commemorate an event and make a difference in a child’s life. The idea of a Legacy Wedding Gift Program was suggested to us by several of our guests who said they were not in need of traditional wedding gifts and want to do something to share their good fortune.”
If you choose to have your destination wedding at a Real Resorts property and are interested in the Legacy Gift Fund program, it can be arranged through your wedding planner or travel agent. Real Resorts can also set up a bridal registry to allow your wedding guests to contribute as well. City of Joy is location just outside Cancun and provides education, healthcare and legal support for families in need. For more information visit Real Resorts’ wedding website.
