With family on both coasts of the United States, Crystal and J explored both options when it came time to plan their destination wedding. However, the couple quickly discovered that St. Helena, California was the way to go. “We both have large extended families, but few opportunities to get them all together, so we wanted to use the wedding as an excuse to ‘force’ people into a mini vacation, meet their new family members and spend quality time together in a beautiful place,” recalls Crystal.
The couple can rest easy as it’s plain to see from their stunning wedding photos that they accomplished all they wanted and more come W-day. “Aesthetically, I was looking for a location which was rustic, naturally beautiful and had a magical charm to it,” says Crystal. Meadowood Resort had everything the couple was looking for, the look Crystal wanted and the great food and wine which was important to J.
Crystal and J also wanted to ensure guests were treated when it came to accommodations. “For housing, we rented as many houses as we could for our families and the bridal party, so they could all spend time together – cooking, eating, lounging, getting ready for the day etc.,” says the bride. Overall, Crystal describes the destination wedding planning process as “fun and easy.”
There’s no doubt the newlyweds made the right decision in opting for a destination wedding, as a hometown affair would have been quite different. “I wanted a smaller, intimate setting; had the wedding been local, the guest list would have more than doubled,” recalls the bride. “We were able to bring down the size of the guest list by having a destination wedding (160 vs. 320, if it was local), so that brought down costs significantly. But, because it was a smaller wedding we were able to splurge on our options – mainly food, wine, a live band, brunch and croquet for our guests the day after the wedding.”
The beautiful bride has some final words of advice for how to achieve your own beautiful destination wedding, “There’s nothing you ‘have to do’ or ‘should do.’ It’s your wedding, so make it special by doing the things which mean something to you and your future spouse.” Here at Destination I Do, when get thousands of beautiful weddings a year, but this occasion was really something special! Hopefully Crystal and J’s affair has inspired you in your own destination wedding planning process.
