Destination Wedding Florida: A Romance on the BeachWords by Courtney Kellar Words by Lauren Rubino

For Patricia and Jason, Destin, Florida was the perfect place to make their love official. The two had taken many vacations there over the years and were engaged there over Labor Day weekend the year before.
“It just made sense,” says Patricia. “Destin is such a beautiful part of Florida and we absolutely love it there.”
The idea to have a destination wedding came up when the couple decided they wanted to give their guests a chance to get away. They also wanted to spend more time with everyone and having a destination wedding allowed them to do just that.
Patricia and Jason were not the only ones excited about the travel plans.
“Everyone was super supportive of our decision,” says Patricia. “We had a lot of guests coming from out of town anyway, so travel wasn’t an issue for most.”
The actual planning of the wedding was pretty stress-free for the couple thanks to the help of Shelby Peaden of Shelby Peaden Events.
“I don’t know how we would have done it without her,” recalls the bride. “We gave her our ideas and wishes and left the details to her. It was great not having to stress over the little things and in the end our wedding was perfect.”
There were some hands-on projects, though, for the couple when it came to goodie bags for their guests.
“Since we were doing a destination at the beach, we gave all of our guests beach bags full of beach going necessities,” says Patricia. “We ordered beach bags online which matched the color scheme of the wedding and included all the things we could think of that an out of town guest might need (including water and Tylenol for the morning after, just in case)."
The couple even enlisted the help of their parents who made the ring pillow and flower girl basket for their ceremony.
The beach celebration was a joy to everyone in attendance and it had the feel of being on a great vacation with all the people you love.
The bride makes it clear, don’t sweat the small stuff and, “find someone you trust [to help you plan your wedding] and just enjoy being engaged while looking forward to the big day.”
