Destination Wedding Jamaica: A Perfect Wedding and Vacation!

The decision to have a destination wedding for couple Kim and Evon was simple. They wanted to go to a place where their two families could create a stronger bond with one another, so what better way than to go on a vacation to Jamaica? The two also wanted their wedding to be a weekend-long celebration, rather than just a six-hour event like most traditional weddings.

“The majority of our family and friends were excited about the idea of going on an all-inclusive vacation to Jamaica,” said the couple. “There were a few family members that were not thrilled, however, we sold them on the idea of an unforgettable, all inclusive, once-in-a-lifetime vacation, which made it easier for them to join us.”

The wedding was held in Lucea, Jamaica, a place where most of their guests had never been. The great cuisine and rich culture in the area was also a big draw for the couple when deciding the location. The resort, the Grand Palladium Resort and Spa, was decided due to the amenities it had to offer, the fact that it was all-inclusive, the cost and the overall breathtaking beauty surrounding it. The only roadblocks the couple hit were when it came to confirming details prior to their arrival, not receiving prompt responses and not being able to book dates. Coordinating with the vendors was also a bit challenging.

“Most of the issues [with our vendors] was with communication and understanding our desires. We visited the site and vendors prior to our wedding, which aided in resolving issues we had and any issues in the future.”

If the couple can give any advice to future brides and grooms it would be to just take time to enjoy the entire wedding planning process. This is a once in a lifetime event, and you truly want to cherish every second. Other things like, staying on top of your vendors, creating a wedding website and taking on some do-it-yourself projects were some important recommendations made by the couple.

“Create a wedding/engagement website and include all the information needed for traveling so all guests can refer to the website rather than always contacting the couple, this will help relieve an immense amount of stress and repetitiveness,” they said. “I also suggest trying some do-it-your-self projects, it helps cut cost and it’s a great way to bond with your future husband before your special day.”

In the end, everything worked out and their wedding was truly their very own fairy tale. Personal touches like making homemade save the date/invitation “passports,” straw fans spiced up with ribbons to be used at the ceremony and a one-of-a-kind bouquet holder for the bride were all things which helped create a unique experience for everyone.

“Our family and friends really enjoyed the time they all spent together…” the couple said. “We are constantly being told that it’s the best wedding they have ever been to and I truly believe that the wedding being destination played a momentous part in that compliment.”
