Lisa and Doug reside in Manhattan, NY, but have family and friends all over the globe. Thus, wherever they chose to say “I do,” their guests were going to have to travel. The bride, originally from Southern California, wanted to share the sun and surf with her nearest and dearest. “We tried to keep in mind the fact that most of our guests would be traveling a long way – we wanted to be as accommodating as possible and do whatever we could to make sure everyone had a really fun weekend,” recalls Lisa.

While the couple’s venue, the Bel-Air Bay Club, was in Pacific Palisades, California, they encouraged their guests to stay in nearby Santa Monica. “We recommended that our guests stay in downtown Santa Monica, where it is really easy to get around by foot,” says the couple. “We tried to structure the location and events so guests did not need a car for the weekend. We held the rehearsal dinner and after party at a restaurant and bar across the street from their hotels and arranged for buses to take people to and from the wedding venue.”

It’s crystal clear that this couple kept their guests comfort and needs in mind throughout the planning process. This was accomplished with the help of a dynamic wedding planner with Moments by Wayne. Having planned a wedding from the other side of the country, Lisa says she could never have pulled off the wedding of her dreams without her coordinator.

Doug and Lisa ensured their reception would be a hit by splurging on one of their favorite bands (the Silver Mountain Spring Band) and having a food truck swing by as things were winding down for a midnight snack. Guests noshed on In-N-Out burgers and shakes – a California staple – as the wedding came to a close. Looking back on the experience, Lisa has some words of advice for other couples planning their own destination weddings.

“Wherever you have your wedding, close to home or thousands of miles away, never lose sight of why you are actually getting married. There are so many details to think about, so many different people to please, so many things to stress about which could go wrong, but at the end of the day, always remember what your wedding day is supposed to be about: making a lifelong commitment to someone you love more than anything (despite silly arguments you might have about what appetizers to serve) and celebrating it all with you family and friends.”
