Destination Wedding Mexico: A Cancun Celebration

Tracey and William knew having a destination wedding in Cancun, Mexico would come with lots of pros and a few cons. “We knew that we would have several family [members] and friends who would be unable to make it to our wedding, but at the end of the day, it was our decision and everyone supported us,” recalls the couple. “Those who could make it were there and those who couldn’t were sending us love and well wishes from afar.” Come W-day, Tracey and William were joined by 40 of their closest friends and family to say, “I do!”

The couple knew they wanted to get married on the beach, but had to do some research to narrow down their dream destination. “We were really open to anywhere that provided a safe and affordable option for our guests who would be traveling with us,” says the couple. “After doing the research, we decided that Cancun, Mexico was a great location due to the travel flexibility it provided our guests. Our airport offered several direct flights under four hours for most of our guests which eased the travel stress for everyone invited. We were able to narrow down our resort choice to Sun Palace after deciding we wanted a five-star, all-inclusive, adults-only resort.

Tracey struggled with letting go like a lot of destination wedding brides. “I was a little uneasy trusting so much of the planning to someone who was onsite, but it also allowed us a less stressful wedding planning experience,” says the bride. “If you choose a destination wedding, you have to trust in others mare than you would if you were getting married locally.” In the end, the couple’s day came together just as they had always envisioned.

William and Tracey embraced their destination by shopping locally for maracas for their guests’ favors and by putting together welcome bags. “We brought bags to Mexico which we filled with beach toys, SPF, aloe-vera, Sudoku puzzle books, Mexican candies, a mini sewing kit, local maps and other fun treats for our guests to make their stay that much more perfect.”

By all accounts, Tracey and William’s wedding was just that – perfect. The couple is glad they didn’t consider a hometown wedding. “We would not have been able to get married on such a beautiful beach,” recall the newlyweds. “We were also able to bring our family and friends together for a week to get to know each other more and to celebrate our marriage.”
