Destination Wedding Minnesota

When two people decide to get married, they look forward to spending the rest of their lives with one another. But in anticipation of their future together, Ashley and Jason decided to take a look back at the happy memories made before they were engaged, by having a destination wedding in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, a place which is familiar and cherished by both of them.

“We chose to have a destination wedding because I am from Pequot Lakes originally, and Jason and his family have a cabin on the same chain of lakes where I grew up," said the bride, Ashley. "We thought it would be the perfect location to get married – up north, on the beach, where we have both had so many wonderful memories. We also thought it would be a nice getaway for our guests in that they could enjoy the wonderful amenities of northern Minnesota."

Pequot Lakes was the perfect location for the couple due to the place it held in their hearts, and the desire to share this special place with their family and friends. Ashley and Jason wanted their guests to make their own happy memories at Pequot Lakes and took all necessary measures to ensure they had a comfortable stay. "We reserved rooms at three different locations and gave our guests that information with our wedding invitations," recalls the bride. "Another reason we chose the Brainerd Lakes area for a wedding was because our guests had numerous lodging opportunities, because tourism is so great there.” It’s clear that the guests enjoyed their stay and many told the couple that they enjoyed the
"mini-vacation"

When it came to finding inspiration, Ashley turned to bride-favorite websites like Pinterest and Etsy, for ideas on how to give their nuptials a more personal touch. These personal details came together with help from the family. “My father-in-law graciously constructed the ‘hoopa’ at the end of the dock used as the focal point for our wedding ceremony," says Ashley. "My husband’s aunt designed our wedding programs, and also did the designs for the table numbers that were inside the frames on each individual table. My husband’s mother is one of those people who just has a knack for design and style, and she put together the table arrangements for the ceremony - the details added so much character and charm.”

Organizing Ashley and Jason’s wedding was relatively smooth sailing. Of course putting the event together was a lot of work, but the couple felt that their efforts were well worth it. Ashley and Jason made a point of meeting with their vendors face to face as often as they could, but if it was not possible to make the trip, their vendors were only a phone call away. The only thing they really had to worry about was the weather, which turned out to be a beautiful warm, sunny day by the lakeside.

If you’re looking to pull off a dream wedding like that of Ashley and Jason’s, Ashley offers this advice: “... Enjoy the experience while it lasts because the actual day goes by so fast. Just take a moment on your wedding day to soak in the day because all of the décor, all of the extravagance, all of the guests that are there are for you and your spouse. For us it was such an exciting, memorable day because it was the day that began our life together as husband and wife, and we got to share that special day with everyone we love. “
