As a hopeless romantic, I’m always most inspired by lasting love. The white-haired couple snuggling close on a dance floor as if there wasn’t another person in the room. Wrinkled hands clasped together during a leisurely stroll through a park. It’s not every day someone is lucky enough to find that kind of everlasting love and commitment, but when they do, it is something to celebrate.

Such is the case for Kristy and her husband Adam. Starting off as high school sweethearts, they literally grew up together. “I first spotted Adam when I was in ninth grade, he was in eleventh and honestly it was love at first sight,” recalls Kristy. “We were friends for some time, but never apart since that first meeting so many years ago.”

To celebrate their long standing union and 10 year anniversary, the couple traveled to Zion National Park in Utah to renew their vows with their closest loved ones in attendance. “We first traveled to Utah on a cross-country drive after our wedding in 2000,” says Kristy. “Never before had we felt such a connection with a place other than our hometown.”

You may recognize Kristy’s work since she is the owner and artist for Momental Designs, a handmade invitation and stationary company which has been featured in countless publications and media outlets. Not to be outdone by her previous efforts for brides and clients alike, she turned the brush to her own nuptials and got to work. “Creating art for [brides] is a passion, but having the chance to do so for our renewal was pure joy. For our booklet save-the-dates, a simple sketch of the vibrant Zion landscape was letter-pressed into thick cotton paper along with script reading ‘Kristy and Adam 10 years.’  Each was then individually hand-painted with watercolor washes so no two were alike. Sending our guests a mini-art piece seemed the perfect way to get them excited about the journey to come!” explains Kristy.

Kristy designed and created everything from formal invitations and welcome booklets to programs, hand-painted menus and place cards. “I took every opportunity I could to express Adam and myself in paper for this event. Very simply, we wanted to create a sumptuous space; a landscape of tangible details that our friends and family could not soon forget.”

When it came to the actual celebration, 12 of their closest friends and family traveled to Zion to commemorate this special occasion. “Every aspect of our ceremony spoke of the history Adam and I had made for each other in the last 10 years and of the soaring natural beauty that surrounded us in that moment. Readings from friends and family either written for that day or re-read from our original wedding set the stage for a meaningful celebration,” says Kristy.

A stunning table set under the night’s sky was adorned with unique pieces and thoughtfully discovered details bringing the celebration to life. A mixed menu of the couple’s favorites was offered along with a table-side margarita bar.

As a gift to their guests, the couple commissioned Caroline from Paloma’s Nest to create custom terracotta bowls featuring the Zion sketch Kristy had done. “We were honored to have Caroline work in this material just for our celebration and revere her creations as a treasured keepsake from the day,” says Kristy.

The night ended as fabulously as it began, “Our guitarist, Rustin, began taking requests and playing his best acoustic versions of anything we could throw at him. As we continued to eat, drink and tell stories, the music filled the space and before we knew it, we were all singing along. In that moment, all we wanted for our renewal celebration had come true.”
