There is nothing better than being greeted in a foreign country by smiles and beautiful accents. And as I stepped off the airplane in Nassau, Bahamas, that’s exactly what I experienced. Coupled with the balmy temperatures and sweet scent in the air…yep, I had arrived in paradise.
As we pulled up to the Wyndham Nassau Resort (my home for the next 4 days), I was incredibly impressed by the manicured grounds and sweeping entry. The hotel seemed to be a rendering of a luxury cruise ship, and as you lay poolside, you feel as if you’re staring up at the largest cruise liner you’ve ever seen.
The pool and beach-front is absolutely the crown jewel of the property. The noteworthy Caribbean sea and white sand beaches, paired with the pool’s rock waterfalls, two-story waterslide and live entertainment stage, create the ultimate “vacation feel” from the moment you step on the premises.
If you and your guests are feeling a little adventurous, there are numerous opportunities for fun. Just steps away from the outdoor boardwalk gazebo is a dock where you can jump on board for a parasail ride or rent a jet ski for the afternoon. Drive a little way into town and you will find the infamous Straw Market, with open air stalls and local vendors selling everything from original souvenirs, works of art and hundreds of knock-off designer accessories.
Probably the most enjoyable activity the area offers is sailing around the island with a stop off to snorkel and swim with sharks. We used Stewart Cove’s Dive Bahamas. Be prepared to dive deep in some spots, so if you’re not a great snorkeler, might be better to don some scuba gear instead. Swimming with the sharks isn’t exactly safe for little kids as there are some pretty strict instructions to keep you out of harm’s way, although it is an unforgettable experience and one that will have your adrenaline pumping for the rest of the day.
As far as great eats, the Wyndham Nassau Resort has several restaurants on property (eight to be exact), the Black Angus Grille being the favorite. After dinner, mosey on over to 22 above lounge for a night cap and some dancing. Every Friday and Saturday night, the lounge features live music so you can “shake your groove thing”after 9:30pm.
If you’re looking for some gaming, Crystal Palace Casino is found inside the resort, so you don’t have to venture far. Slots, Black Jack and Texas Hold ‘Em, are just a few of the options for you and your gambling crew.
The wedding packages here are affordable and inclusive, especially if you’re thinking of marrying mid-week. The Wyndham has on-site specialists who can help you plan within your budget and to your exact taste, be it in their beach-front gazebo or Grand Ballroom.
As for getting there, it is only a stone’s throw from Miami (45 minute direct flight) and a little further from NYC (3 hour direct flight).
Proximity, affordability and beauty – the Wyndham Resort, Crystal Palace Casino and Nassau are a sure bet (pun intended) for a successful and fun destination wedding!Photo courtesy of
