An Adirondack Dream

Chris and Hollis never had any doubts as to where they wanted to say “I do.” The bride grew up in Upstate New York and the couple spent a lot of quality time (including getting engaged!) at her family cabin in the Adirondacks. What makes this destination wedding especially unique is the use of the bride’s official family plaid – perfect for a fall wedding!

The North Dakota couple was anxious to travel to friendly weather for a September wedding. While the couple’s chosen destination was pretty isolated, it did make things logistically simple once their 50 guests arrived. Their ceremony site, Big Moose Community Chapel, was walking distance from the inn where all of their guests were staying.
Overall, the couple wanted to share a place they loved with all of the most important people in their lives. This was certainly accomplished and the couple’s nearly-all DIY wedding definitely reflected their personalities. From the bride’s paper bouquet, to the centerpieces and favors, everything was done by the couple or a creative person in their lives. This allowed the couple to – gasp – stay under budget!
In the end Hollis and Chris got exactly what they always dreamed of: “We got to spend a whole weekend with our guests, having quality time with each and every one of them. Our favorite part of the whole experience was giving our friends and family time to get to know each other.”
The overall planning experience wasn’t perfect, but the couple kept a positive attitude. “[It was] hectic at times, but isn’t all wedding planning? Overall, [it was] not as bad as one would think. We’ve spent a lot of time [in our destination], so we knew exactly what we wanted.”
This creative and laid-back couple has some final words of advice for other couples planning their dream destination wedding. “Think about what you want the overall experience to be for you and your guests. Pick a destination which means something to you and do it your way!”
