Queteria had never imagined getting married anywhere other than her hometown of Atlanta until she met Omar. Her husband-to-be had always wanted a destination wedding, and together, the couple found their perfect location on in Mexico. “One of our main priorities was to keep cost down for our guests as much as possible; that’s why we chose Mexico,” says Queteria.

Queteria was a bit apprehensive at first about having her wedding so far from home. Her mother had never been on a plane before and was nervous to fly. However, she would do anything to be at her daughter’s wedding and once she expressed here willingness to fly, the couple decided a destination weddings was exactly what they wanted.
Queteria admits she is picky and likes to have to have full control over details. This made her hesitant in planning a wedding abroad but she was more than happy with how everything turned out. “The overall experience was amazing! Some parts were difficult because I wanted to see, hear, touch, smell and taste everything but the wedding department at Excellence Playa Mujeres eased my mind, answering all of my questions and sending me videos,” explains the bride. The resort provided the couple with an interactive planning experience, giving her full control over her big day and allowing her to host the wedding of her dreams.
The couple wanted to ensure their personal touches would be incorporated into the event so they included many DIY projects. Queteria and Omar crafted many of the decorations like the gazebo floral adornments, flower balls, menus and recessional flower toss bags. The couple also wanted to show their appreciation towards their guests for making the trip to Mexico so Queteria gifted her best friends with monogrammed lunch totes and the couple gave the rest of their guests welcome bags which included fun knickknacks like personalized luggage tags.
An unbelievably pleasant experience for Queteria and Omar, hosting a destination wedding was the perfect way to celebrate their love for one another. “Take care of things in a timely fashion so you are not trying to order or make items at the last minute. Do a lot of things yourself because it is possible,” urges Queteria. “And lastly, enjoy your day! Enjoy your day!”
