Wedding Bells in Bora Bora

John and Lupita chose to do things a little differently when it came time to plan their wedding. The two had always dreamed of a wedding in French Polynesia that would be special and memorable. John and Lupita decided the best way to make this dream come true was an intimate destination wedding without any guests.

“Everyone was very supportive,” John says of their decision marry abroad. “About the only negative reaction was that they weren’t coming!” The couple ensured their loved ones would still feel included in the special day by hosting a reception back home in Carlsbad, California. This was the perfect way to have both their fantasy wedding and a celebration with the love and support of their family and friends.
The couple kept it simple with a seaside wedding, completely organized by InterContinental. Brilliantly bold colors were incorporated into what minimal décor they did have. The couple also created a “Just Married” banner out of fishnet and seashells. “It was as close as we could get to ‘driving off into the sunset’,” explains the groom.
As for other couples hosting a destination wedding, John and Lupita urge them to keep things in perspective. “Truly remember what the day is about. It is a celebration, so celebrate! And take in each moment – it goes fast.”
