Hosting a destination wedding in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica was a given for Casey and Courtney. When Casey brought Courtney to this stunning place two years before, he had asked her to spend the rest of his life with him. Saying “I do” in the same place that Casey proposed was a special way to share their love story with friends and family.
The couple’s loved ones were more than excited to travel to this amazing location for a wedding. The opportunity to combine a celebration of love with a luxurious vacation could not be missed. However, there were a few people on the guest list who were apprehensive to travel. Since the couple wanted to keep the wedding intimate and there were those who couldn't make it, they decided to host a casual reception at a local bar when they returned, playing a slideshow of the pictures from the big day, which the bride had kept secret until the celebration.
Courtney wanted to ensure her guests had plenty to do while on vacation since they had traveled such a long distance to be with the couple. The couple arranged activities like a morning yoga session, rented surfboards for the week for their guests to use, and even planned a day trip to a waterfall where they rode ATVs and jumped off the cliff.
Casey and Courtney’s wedding planners were amazing in helping them arrange everything from afar. They utilized all the natural elements of Costa Rica to give the wedding a rustic and tropical feel. “My biggest request was for a sign to honor my father who was killed in Afghanistan four and a half years ago. They made a beautiful sign out of driftwood and placed it on the chair he would have sat in with a beautiful flower arrangement,” Casey explains. The couple ended the evening with a bonfire and s’mores bar, releasing Wishing Lanterns into the night’s sky.
“I wouldn't have changed one thing about our wedding!” Courtney recalls. “Your wedding is once in a lifetime, why not make it all that you dream of. Cutting back on the number of people on your guest list is nothing in comparison to the memories you will have.”
