Lindsey and Chase wanted to escape the ordinary when it came to their wedding. With a mutual love for the beach and a short driving distance from their hometown in Louisiana, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida was the perfect place to host their dream destination wedding. “We choose the Highland House because it fit into our budget and it fit my personality and style perfectly,” says Lindsey. Because Lindsey’s parents knew their daughter had always wanted a destination wedding, this decision did not come as a surprise to them, as they had had plenty of time to warm up to the idea of a celebration away.
Lindsey’s father loves to plan things so there was no need to hire a wedding planner for this special day. From experience planning Lindsey’s sister’s wedding, her parents were well equipped with creative ideas and couldn’t wait to take on another. A quick trip in November and many emails was all it took for the couple to arrange vendors and make sure everything would be perfect. “My overall experience turned our great, however it was a long and busy road. Lots of emails, but well worth it in the end,” says the bride.
As for the fun stuff, Lindsey and Chase incorporated several fun and unique DIY aspects into their wedding. Their guest book was designed by Chase’s aunt, which consisted of several bottles of wine with personally designed lables for the guests to fill with their well wishes. The couple also made wedding favors for guests, which included homemade Pralines and their family’s famous jarred Cajun spice. Lindsey’s dad cooked all the Gumbo for the reception and her mother made the burlap table runners.
The couple’s day turned out perfectly and they wouldn’t have changed a thing about it. The help of loved ones made the entire event possible and through this, Lindsey learned that a wedding planner is not always necessary. “My only advice is, you don’t always need a wedding planner. You usually have people around you who are willing to help and do things for you…it is up to you to take advantage of these and execute them with tasks to complete. I didn’t have a wedding planner and could not be any happier with my wedding.
