A Sweet Aspen WeddingWords by Courtney Cox

For Christopher and Tracey, there were two primary factors in opting for a destination wedding: they wanted their families to have the opportunity to spend a weekend together and they wanted an outdoor wedding. After regular vacations in Colorado and falling in love with the many charming mountain towns, the couple chose Aspen as the perfect solution!
When it came to selecting a venue, the couple wanted somewhere they could have a truly “outdoorsy” feeling ceremony and reception, but close enough to town that it was convenient for their guests. The T Lazy 7 ranch was the perfect fit. After the destination and venue was chosen, it was time to get down to business and start planning.
For Christopher and Tracey, hiring a wedding planner was instrumental in their having a relaxed planning experience. “We found that planning is all about using the resources at your disposal,” says the bride. “Once you start, you find that the wedding community is very well connected. Our wedding planner was able to give us some great referrals…”
Aside from knowing they wanted to hire a wedding planner, the couple also wanted to incorporate Christopher’s Hawaiian heritage into their wedding weekend. Most notably, the groom and his groomsmen wore traditional maile leis from Hawaii. For favors, the couple told their guests “Mahalo” with lauhala boxes filled with Hawaiian shortbread cookies.
Overall, the couple had a near-flawless planning experience; in large part to their efforts at staying on budget. “We spent money on the things we really wanted like the ukulele and guitar player for the ceremony, the caterer and the wedding planner. Then we cut back on things that were not as important to us.” The couple also incorporated as many handcrafted details as possible. Thus, personalizing their event while helping to stay on track budget-wise.
Despite a little rain in their wedding weekend forecast, Christopher and Tracey got the outdoor destination wedding they envisioned from the beginning. The couple has some advice for other couples planning their own wedding away: “Make your wedding your wedding! Incorporate aspects that define the two of you as a couple. The simpler, the better!”
