An Easy "I Do" in Mexico

Chris and Lauren knew they wanted a small beach wedding, and seeing as they live in Houston, Texas, a destination wedding was in order! These two travel aficionados quickly settled on Mexico since it meant quick, convenient flights from Texas. While the decision for them was easy, there were some reservations from the guest list. “Our parents seemed a little nervous at first about us planning a wedding in a foreign country, but we took a scouting trip to Mexico to see the resort about seven months before the wedding with both sets of parents,” says Lauren. “I think a lot of the anxiety simply stemmed from the fact that neither my parents nor Chris’ parents had been to a destination wedding before, so they were unsure what to expect. By the time the big day came, though, everyone was on board and had a great time!”

The couple couldn’t have made the planning process any easier on themselves since they opted to work with a travel agent to help them research venues and book travel for them and their guests. Ultimately, Chris and Lauren chose to say “I do” at Azul Sensatori Resort in Puerto Morelos, Mexico. Because the resort handles so many of the details in-house, Lauren and Chris were saved the process of researching vendors. “I thought the overall experience of planning was fantastic and incredible easy/low stress,” says the bride. “I was not overly concerned about the way the cake looked or whether a certain flower was used, so this type of planning was perfect for me. And, to be honest, everything turned out better than I could have imagined.”

While the couple isn’t sure they saved money by opting for a destination wedding, they’re sure they got much more bang for their buck. The two arranged multiple activities for all of their guests including a welcome happy hour, bridal brunch and rehearsal dinner. In the end, not only did Lauren and Chris become “man and wife,” they became big-time supporters of destination weddings in general. “If you are thinking about a destination wedding, you should definitely do it,” says Lauren. “We could not have been happier with how ours turned out…it was truly wonderful!”

In terms of advice for other couples, here’s what Lauren and Chris had to say: “…the most important thing to remember when planning your wedding is to remember that it is actually your wedding. So, if something is really important to you, then make sure that it happens. After all, this is your one and only wedding day!”
