Candice and Peter have lived all over the World and so their guest list spanned far and wide. Since the majority of their nearest and dearest would have to travel no matter what, the couple, who were living in New York City, decided to trek to Banff, Alberta, Canada for a dream destination wedding. Candice grew up not far from beautiful Banff and thankfully, Peter also fell in love with the Rockie Mountain setting. Luckily, a lot of their guests had never been to Banff, but had always wanted to, so the couple’s wedding was the perfect opportunity.
This detail-oriented bride was initially skeptical about planning a wedding from afar. “It was actually quite a good experience overall,” says Candice. “I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to control everything from afar, but it was quite easy coordinating. I definitely think that the reason why it was so pleasant was because our vendors are used to doing destination weddings and were 100% professional and efficient.
“Although I was across the continent, I was lucky enough to make some really strong bonds with several of our vendors. These people became our friends and put their hearts and souls into our wedding to make it special for us. We were so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with such professional people and even more fortunate that they became our friends forever.”
The couple took the time to have a few special touches throughout their wedding. Candice and Peter collected wine corks and then used the corks they had collected over their four year relationship as place card holders. Also, Peter’s younger sister is a beautiful seamstress so she designed and made the flower girls’ dresses. She even added the special touch of stitching C + P into the dresses.
This newlywed bride has some final words of advice for other destination wedding couples. “I know this is a big cliché, but enjoy every moment!” says Candice. “It’s not every day you are surrounded by the people you love the most. It goes by so quickly and I would do anything to do it all over again. One small piece of advice – take a mental picture of that day. I took a mental picture of Peter and I during our ceremony and when I think back on that day, I can see the exact lighting of the room and the expression on his face as he said his vows. It’s priceless.”
