A Charismatic Charleston Wedding

Tahlia and Paul are an Indianapolis couple accustomed to Hoosier hospitality, so why did they decide to get married away? “Paul and I knew pretty quickly when we first met that we wanted many of the same things in life,” says Tahlia. “A destination wedding was just one of those things. We wanted to make the wedding a special event and also to have a small, intimate celebration so that we had time to enjoy it with all who attended.”

After getting engaged, what started out as a vacation to Charleston, quickly turned into a wedding scouting trip. “We went to Charleston to see the city, go to great restaurants and just take it all in,” recalls the bride. “We fell in love with Charleston that weekend and knew that it had to be the location of our wedding. We started researching wedding venues the day we left.”

One of the main requirements for their destination wedding location was that it be drivable for their families and friends from Indiana. Thankfully, Charleston fit the bill and their 90 guests were staunchly on board for a wedding in charming South Carolina. After booking their venue and reserving room blocks at a few hotels in town, the couple decided it was time to leave it to a professional and hired a wedding planner.

“We met with one other wedding planner, but it was Lizz who we instantly clicked with,” says Tahlia. “I do think this is important to note, as you work closely with your wedding planner and that person has to be someone you get along with and connect with easily. Thanks to our amazing wedding planner, planning our destination wedding in Charleston was a wonderful experience. It was not stressful at all.”

Another important vendor for the couple was their photographer. Thankfully, their planner had plenty of vendor suggestions. “As a well-established planner in Charleston and a Charleston native, we were confident that any vendor who was good enough for Lizz was good enough for us,” says the couple. “We got to meet [Paige Winn] during a planning trip and really liked her personality and calming presence. She was great with us, our wedding party and our guests on the wedding day and we could not be happier with our pictures!”

When it came to the wedding weekend, the couple thought of just about everything. Because their guests’ hotels were in close proximity, the couple arranged to have a shuttle pick everyone up for the wedding and drop them back off at the end of the night. This could not have been achieved if the couple’s ceremony and reception were held at different venues and they recommend finding a spot that can do double duty, if possible.

At the end of the wedding day, Tahlia and Paul got the laid-back, intimate wedding they had always envisioned. “It was a very special and memorable weekend for everyone and we wouldn’t change on thing about it! We are so blessed to have such fun and loving friends and family. They all came to Charleston for our wedding and we, in turn, got to show many of them our favorite things about one of our favorite cities!”
