A Sweet Charleston Wedding

This New York City couple never had a moment’s hesitation in opting for a destination wedding. With family and friends scattered all along the East Coast, it seemed only fair to meet in the middle. Luckily, Kim and Scott’s dream destination just so happened to be in the ideal location. “All of Scott’s family is originally from Charleston, so coming back home is always a special occasion for everyone,” says the bride. “Most of my family, as well as our friends, are within driving distance and those who weren’t, thought it was a perfect meeting point between Florida and New York.”

All of the couple’s guests were on board and were thrilled to visit the historic South Carolina city. Unfortunately, picking an extremely popular wedding destination comes with its own set of challenges. “The only problem we ran into was making sure a date was available at the venue we wanted,” recalls Kim. “We noticed a trend when touring various locations that securing a date was close to impossible during our desired season.

“We started looking over a year out and had to move our desired date in order to secure our dream venue, Magnolia Plantation. With Charleston’s history, beauty and charm, I understand why it’s a popular wedding destination.” Thankfully, the couple was in good hands with their wedding planner, Francesca with Pure Luxe Bride. She helped arrange all the couple’s vendors and put out any fires which came up leading to the big day.

One vendor the bride selected herself was the photographer. “I found our photographer, Juliet Elizabeth, searching online,” says Kim. “When we saw her work we knew we had to have her capture our memories. We fell in love with her technique and the way she captured the special moments between the bride and groom, family/friends and the environment of the venue.”

Come W-Day, the couple got the classic, rustic destination wedding they were after. Kim and Scott exchanged vows beneath dramatic trees cloaked in Spanish moss and surrounded by their friends and family. Overall, the newlyweds don’t have any regrets and enjoyed the planning process.

“We had a positive experience planning our wedding,” says the couple. “There were a couple of bumps along the way, but with the help of our planner…everything was taken care of. It was a pure joy to see all of our ideas and special touches come together on our day.”

One such special touch was the couple’s favors for their guests. “We sent our guests home with delicious, gooey sticky buns from WildFlour Pastry for their breakfast the following day. As a keepsake, we added a hand-stamped fork with meaningful phrases to each package. We wanted to make something special for our guests to cherish. Our family and friends raved about them…”

In an effort to make things as smooth as possible for their guests, Kim and Scott reserved hotel blocks in advance and arranged for a bus to pick up their guests and transfer them to the venue on the big day. As Kim so eloquently put it, “All they needed to worry about was having a good time!”

Kim has some final words of advice for other couples planning their own destination wedding. “My advice would be to start looking at venues and vendors as soon as possible in order to have everything you want for your day. The day goes by fast! Take moments the day-of to take everything in – it will be worth it!”
