Destination Wedding Croatia

Ben and Naomi knew they wanted a sunny, outdoor wedding, but didn’t want to roll the dice with the unpredictable U.K. weather. Their first instinct was to look to Italy for their dream destination wedding location. However, they had a difficult time finding a location they liked which had enough accommodations nearby to house all their guests. Thankfully, Naomi’s sister came to the rescue with a brilliant idea.

“We had been to Hvar, Croatia, for a holiday years before and recommended it to my sister,” says Naomi. “When she was there, even before [Ben] proposed to me, she said ‘If you ever get married this would be an amazing location.’ I remembered [what she said] and realized Hvar ticked all of our wedding boxes.”

While the destination was a bit more expensive than what the couple had hoped, they moved full steam ahead with the help of their wedding planner Jasmine Topcic with Croatian Moments. It definitely took Naomi a while to adjust to the process of planning a wedding away. “There were some stressful moments, not being able to see the flowers beforehand for example, and if you’re a perfectionist, detailed person, you may find it hard,” says the bride.

“Also, in regards to planning, don’t forget about the culture of the place you are going to. I was driven mad at times by the ‘tomorrow is fine’ culture of Croatia. It was very laid back, whereas I wanted confirmations now, now and yesterday! I had to really remind myself that it was just that culture and to chill out!”

Come W-day, the couple and their 60 guests were surrounded my sunshine – just like the couple had always dreamed of. They have no regrets about holding a destination wedding and it was the perfect fit for them as they wanted an “outdoor, natural and laid-back” affair. “We felt that holding it abroad we got to have a week-long wedding, which was absolutely wonderful,” say the newlyweds. “We got to spend so much time with our family and friends, which was perfect for us as we have family and friends scattered all over the World. Our wedding brought everyone together for more than just one day which made it incredibly special for us and all our guests.”

The couple have some final words of advice for other couples planning a wedding away. “Make sure you let people know what your plans are for the time outside of the wedding. We had [plans before and after the wedding] which our guests really appreciated being able to drop into [what events] they wanted to. We also told everyone where we would be during the days before so they could come and meet us if they wanted, or do their own thing. Also, make sure you plan some time to yourselves! We had one day where we got a boat out to another island, turned our phones off and relaxed – that’s important too!”
