A destination wedding was a sure-thing for Arghavan and Eddie due to their love of travel and having friends and family spread all over the globe. Thankfully, their loved ones were on board and even joined-in on helping the couple decide where they would tie the knot. “When we were initially brainstorming ideas of locations in the region…friends almost always would try to convince us on Dubai,” says the bride. “It is a destination that is often on most peoples’ bucket list and our wedding gave them the perfect excuse to make it happen. Those guests who had not been to Dubai previously were beyond excited to visit and experience the culture and glamour.”
All-in-all, the couple was up to the challenge of planning a wedding from halfway around the world. “I was born in Iran and having my family present at our wedding was very important to me,” says Arghavan. “We felt confident picking Dubai as a destination [since] English is predominately spoken, most vendors have websites, the system very closely mimics the West, it’s a very popular destination in the region and, above all, it’s beautiful.
“We were both quite familiar with the city and [Dubai] is nothing short of the best, the biggest and the greatest of all things. We picked Burj Al Arab because it’s the only 7-star hotel in the world and offers an exquisite level of customer service…”
The bride and groom handled the planning process well, but attribute their piece of mind to their on-site wedding planners. “Planning a destination wedding anywhere in the world presents with some logistical difficulties purely due to the distance and lack of person-to-person interactions. However, the key is the venue and the planners you work with.”
Come wedding week, the couple was joined in stunning Dubai by their closest family and friends. As predicted, a large portion of their guests stayed for at least a week and turned the couple’s wedding into a full-blown vacation. Arghavan and Eddie were gracious in that they helped arrange accommodations for a lot of their guests.
“We had rented a vacation rental villa on the Palm Island that not only housed us and our immediate family, but also served as a base to entertain our guests for gatherings during the week,” explains the bride. “We also assisted most of our guests in securing vacation rental condos and apartments in the area (Dubai Marina) and, of course, a few guests also stayed at hotels.”
This savvy newlywed bride has some final words of advice for other couples planning their dream destination wedding. “I would shy away from a location you have never been to and definitely go with a venue you have faith in. [Also,] a wedding planner is a must and a key to success.”
