Lori and Ralph got engaged in Jamaica and fell in love with the people, island style and gorgeous beaches. So, when they decided they wanted a small, intimate wedding, a destination wedding in Jamaica was the obvious choice! They returned to Secrets Wild Orchid, the same resort at which they were engaged, for a unique, customized dream wedding.
According to Lori, a destination wedding suited her perfectly in more ways than one. “I had to realize that I couldn’t control it all…I had to put all faith and trust in [our wedding planner] and the resort’s planner,” she says. “It kept things simplified. I wouldn’t have done it any other way.”
The couple had a distinct vision for their wedding and thankfully reached out to a professional wedding planner to help execute that vision. “Kehrin Hassan, owner of Jet Set Wed, helped turn my visions into reality,” recalls the bride. “I was blown away when I saw my wedding décor for the first time, down to every last detail.”
These newlywed rock stars didn’t leave every detail up to their planner, they did include some DIY elements on their big day. “We included temporary tattoos in our guests’ welcome bags,” says Lori. “One of them was an engagement photo of us and our dog, Olive. I had them made online and they turned out great! All of our guests wore the tattoos the day of the wedding! SO much fun!”
Not only did the couple think outside the box in terms of their welcome bags, but in terms of the overall look and feel of their wedding. Lori went bold with a fiery red Vera Wang gown and Ralph was sharp in an Express suit. The couple also left bright red sunglasses on the seats at the ceremony, encouraging their guests to embrace their bold color choice.
When it came to the reception, Lori and Ralph kept things clean and classic with a mostly black and white color scheme - even asking their guests to wear black or white. There was no missing this bride on her big day as Lori was surely the centerpiece wherever she went in her brave and fantastic bridal gown. Not surprisingly, the couple have no regrets in choosing to say “I do” in Jamaica.
“If we had a local wedding it would have ended up being a big wedding,” says Lori. “Everything [would have been] much more easily accessible compared to a destination island wedding and I would have had a difficult time simplifying. Our destination wedding showcased who we are, had many small details, but was still simple. It was perfect.”
When asked if she had any advice for other couples considering a destination wedding, Lori didn’t hesitate. “Oh boy, first of all…wedding planner! But, most importantly, remember what your wedding signifies and what is most important…a marriage of love. What could be better than getting married to the one you love while vacationing in paradise with your closest family and friends?”
