Tiana and Kyle were both born and raised in Lake Tahoe, so they couldn’t see starting their lives together as “man and wife” anywhere else. The bride always dreamed of getting married at her great grandmother’s historic lakefront home and the couple was lucky enough to have this dream come true. While the destination and venue were an easy decision, picking a date was slightly more complicated!
“With Kyle’s job as a wildland firefighter, we were very limited as to when we would be able to have the wedding,” says Tiana. “The earliest date we could come up with was November 3, and because the entire wedding would be held outdoors we knew this would be daring due to the unpredictable weather during this time of year.
“We made sure we were prepared for anything and just crossed our fingers that the weather would hold out. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t hold out and we got two feet of snow the week before our wedding. We had to frantically clear all the snow off the lawn to give it enough time to dry out before the tent installations and wedding itself. After this small hiccup, we were lucky enough to have beautiful weather on our wedding day – and our special day was perfect.”
In terms of pulling off their dream wedding, the couple give the majority of the credit to their wedding planner Merrily Rocco with Merrily Wed. While it was impossible to see every detail before the big day, the couple had faith in their planner and her long list of trusted contacts and vendors. “…Merrily works with a lot of the same vendors, so it was easy to trust that we were making the right decisions with reputable people.”
When it came to a theme, the couple came up with an original idea which suited both their personalities and location perfectly! “Kyle has an affinity for nature and trees and wanted to name each of our tables after a different species of tree,” says the bride. “While on the road all summer fighting fires, Kyle collected large slices from each species of tree. Once all were collected, I spent hours burning the name of the species on each piece. They turned out great and are now mounted on a wall in our house!” The couple also created mini wood “save the dates” by burning their info into small pieces of wood and adding a magnet and ribbon to each one.
While this couple got creative with their theme and rolled the dice in terms of weather with their destination wedding, everything came together beautifully and they have some advice for other couples planning their dream wedding away. “Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the planning process, but it’s not worth fretting over small things that ultimately no one will notice. Embrace the process and enjoy planning and collaborating on things together. Remember that this is a wedding and, yes, one of the most important days of your life, but after the wedding – marriage begins.”
