Southern California couple Cassie and Mateo knew North Lake Tahoe, California was the place for them to say “I do” from day one. Thankfully, their loved ones were also on board, and since most them had never visited Lake Tahoe before, they were excited to explore the destination. From the very beginning, Cassie and Mateo wanted their destination wedding to have a unique and laid-back vibe. By putting their heads together, they came up with the perfect theme.
“We decided to have a ‘fiesta’ themed wedding as we wanted he atmosphere to be bright, fun and casual,” says the couple. “We had several lawn games which were set up at the beach and the guests enjoyed putting their toes in the sand for giant Jenga, corn hole and bocce ball.” The two also hosted a fun rehearsal dinner activity the night before the wedding. They treated their guests to an evening at the local mini golf course complete with competition, mingling and libations.
Allotting themselves a year and a half for the wedding planning, Cassie and Mateo were able to make a few trips to Tahoe to meet with vendors and even a trip to Cabo to pick-up fiesta-themed décor and details. “It was a lot of fun to plan and get creative with the theme,” says the bride. “We used Hispanic food tins, jars and bottles to add to the fiesta theme and were able to collect these items throughout the year.”
Cassie credits her wedding planner and sister-in-law with helping her pull-off the fun-filled destination wedding of her dreams. In addition to all the custom-made games, their ceremony and reception were also filled with custom-made and colorful signs courtesy of the bride’s sister-in-law. “The chalkboard signs were a fun way to add color to the event and communicate with the guests as to what they could expect of the evening,” says the bride.
In the end, the couple had the laid-back, colorful affair they had dreamed of and their guests got to have more than a little fun as a result. The bride doesn’t regret having a destination wedding for a second and thinks it was actually easier than if she had planned a hometown wedding. “I honestly think [a hometown wedding] would have been more stressful as I am very detail oriented and would have completely stressed over everything. The whole wedding experience was seamless and, for the most part, stress free…”
As far as advice goes, the couple recommends putting a point-person in charge of your different planned events so that the pressure is taken off of you and you’re able to enjoy every minute. They also encourage couples to plan fun events for their guests. After all – they’re traveling to be with you! Congratulations to Cassie and Mateo on a fun destination wedding well done!
