Since the time of engagement, Lacy and Matt had dreamed of a beach wedding. “With me being from Alabama and him being raised in DC, there was no beach that we considered “home,” said Lacy. So they soon decided on a beautiful destination wedding in Las Caletas, Mexico, after it was recommended by a friend. “Our love for Mexican food (our date nights on Friday’s) and the ocean is what confirmed that Las Caletas was the perfect choice. Also, when [else] would we ever have both of our families on a trip together out of the country?” said Lacy.

The couple’s family, friends, and guests welcomed the idea of a destination wedding and were excited to share in such a unique experience. “We do know that having the wedding in another country excluded some guests because of travel, time off of work, children, etc.,” said Lacy. “But looking back, we would do our wedding again, in a heartbeat.”

But this fairytale wedding story had a few nail-biting chapters before Lacy and Matt get to that perfect beach scene kiss. The two took a leap of faith and booked the venue without being able to view it before their big day. “It is hard visualizing your wedding when you haven’t seen the layout/set up for the day of,” said Lacy. And because of the great distance between them and the venue, the two had to stay highly involved with the wedding planner concerning the wedding details. “We were trusting pictures and reviews to be accurate and we had to be VERY detailed in our personal taste and style for the event,” said Lacy.

Lacy and Matt soon learned that planning a destination wedding is hard work, but worth every moment. “It is hard to plan, pack and pull off a wedding in another location, especially when it is not driving distance from where you live,” said Lacy. “Things will pop up that you can’t control, but that is all part of the memory of your wedding day.”

Although far from home, they didn’t leave behind their personal touches, style and uniqueness. “We did not want classical wedding music and all of the songs fit perfectly with each moment,” said Lacy. The choice of untraditional music really added a personal touch to the beauty of the ceremony.

Another personal touch incorporated in their amazing day was opting out of a traditional cake and instead relaxing and enjoying a beach-view bonfire while roasting delicious s’mores with family and friends.

Las Caletas, Mexico was the ideal destination for the couple’s intimate beach wedding. “Our trip and wedding weekend was so perfect that we would do it again – exactly the same,” said Lacy.

Here’s a helpful hint from Lacy to our brides: “I would definitely suggest putting in time on the front end to ensure that everything is in place and scheduled before you get on the airplane,” said Lacy. “…take the risk and do a destination wedding...”
