Abigail and Emanuel hail from different parts of the U.S. and now live in Washington D.C., so it made since to meet somewhere in the middle for their wedding away. Perhaps the bride put it best when she said, “Having a destination wedding was a delightful consequence of logistics!” Ultimately, the couple decided on Los Cabos, Mexico as their destination wedding location.

“We knew we wanted to get married near the water, but wanted to make sure that the location was as accessible to our guests as possible and worth the trip,” says the couple. “Our family and friends were thrilled to have an excuse to go on a Mexican vacation! In, fact most of our guests stayed for a week or more.”

One thing the couple knew for sure was they wanted to get married near the water, but not necessarily on the beach. This presented a somewhat unique request which the couple was able to realize by finding the perfect venue. “We got married in the garden of Casa del Mar, a private villa located on the grounds of the Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos,” says the couple. “We selected the location as it was the perfect fit for an intimate wedding with our closest friends.

“It also offered the best of everything…we were able to have a wedding near the beach, but didn’t have to be on the beach – instead, we got married in the garden area overlooking the ocean. We had a beautiful beach backdrop, yet were able to still get married on the grassy lawn, so our guests didn’t have to get messy feet in the sand!”

Abigail and Emanuel had a very specific vision and style in mind for their destination wedding. For them, they say hiring a wedding planner was essential in making their dream a reality. “The feel of our wedding was tropical-chic with bold, warm colors to induce a sexy feeling, all the while being by the ocean and the sand…” recalls the couple. “We worked with Karla Casillas and her team who helped us narrow down vendors, make critical design decisions and coordinate logistics throughout the process, as well as the day of the wedding itself.”

Aside from the overall style of their wedding, the couple also really focused on the music. “We spent a lot of time on the music selection…what we wanted to play before the ceremony, during the ceremony, during cocktail hour, during dinner and for our reception,” say the newlyweds. “We really went through and thought about what songs would trigger positive vibes for us as a couple, which permeated throughout the evening.”

To thank their guests for making the trek south of the border, Abigail and Emanuel went to great lengths to ensure their guests had a wonderful vacation. Two nights before the wedding, the couple hosted a private, sunset cruise through the Sea of Cortez where they hosted dinner, drinks and dancing. For the rehearsal, guests were invited to a big bonfire on the beach.

In the end, Abigail and Emanuel got the tropical, sexy wedding they envisioned and it was definitely reflective of their personal style. Our favorite detail? The gorgeous floral design and dramatic centerpieces made for a gorgeous bash by the beach. Kudos to this couple for sticking with bold color choices! These two have some final words of advice for other couples planning their own destination wedding:

“Make your day about you two. Throughout our wedding, we really focused on making sure that it truly reflected who we are. So, from the flowers to the music selection and to the details like cigars with personalized matches, glow-in-the-dark wristbands…[the wedding] really was who we are together.”
