A Rhode Island Destination Wedding

Oni and Josh wanted to get married at a beautiful destination with lots of activities for their guests, and Newport, Rhode Island proved to be the ideal location. “It’s a great sailing destination and many in our collective family sail, so it was perfect!” says the bride. Once the couple decided on their East Coast locale, it was time to find the perfect venue. Ultimately, the two decided on Fort Adams because it was very neutral and would allow them to decorate however they wanted.

However, the couple underestimated what goes into picking a venue which didn’t provide any of the wedding necessities. “We loved the fort because we could do anything we wanted to decorate it, but we failed to budget for all the hidden costs that most venues provide (tents, chairs, dishes…), so we had to get many of these items from separate vendors.” In the end, their destination wedding was exactly what the couple had envisioned, but it didn’t come without some work on their end.
“Everyone says [wedding planning] is stressful,” says Oni. “I never thought Josh and I would be one of those stressed couples – I thought we were different. We actually had many disagreements, however, It’s important to set individual tasks for each person and remember why you’re getting married: because you are in love and because you can’t wait to start your life together…and throw a party while you’re at it!”
