Caitlin and Christopher are an outdoorsy, active couple who knew they wanted to host their wedding at a ski lodge. “Once we saw Stowe Mountain Lodge, we knew this was the place; it had everything we wanted, with all the amenities and lodging on-site, as well as the ‘rustic-elegance’ look and feel we wanted with their gorgeous base lodge.” So, Vermont it was and what a beautiful choice to make!

Aside from wanting an active-friendly destination, the couple had another very specific reason for choosing a ski lodge. “The thought of having everything on-site for [our guests] to do (lodging, activities, ceremony and reception) made traveling easier for them,” says Caitlin. “We felt it was important that once our guests arrived on-site, everything else would be taken care of for them, and the staff at Stowe Mountain Lodge made that possible.”

While their chosen destination and venue fit the couple’s logistical needs, it also fit their personal style. “Not only is it gorgeous with its natural wood and stone work, but it has a ‘rustic-elegance’ feel to it that fit in perfectly with our wedding theme,” recalls the bride. “The beauty of Spruce Camp spoke for itself and we only needed to add little touches to the room to bring it all together. It is a beautiful spot for a wedding.”

Saying “I do” in a small town like Stowe, Vermont also has its own perks. “We used on-site referrals and local vendors which was helpful in that in the community it seemed every vendor knew each other and were quick to recommend them,” says the bride. Overall, the planning process was smooth for Caitlin and Christopher and they are quick to give “thanks.”

“We were very lucky with our planning process due to the help and generosity of our parents, our vendors and Wendy Collins, our on-site coordinator. With their guidance and expertise, our planning process was not only enjoyable, it was seamless!”

In the end, the couple’s vision of spending an easy-going weekend with their nearest and dearest went off without a hitch. “What I really like about our wedding was having everyone there, on-site, with us for the whole weekend,” recalls the bride. “I think if [our wedding] were closer to home, we may have had people coming and going, leaving earlier, etc. It was nice to have everyone there staying over so we could celebrate with them longer!”

This successful bride has some advice for other couples planning their dream destination wedding. “…do whatever makes you happy; embrace the rollercoaster ride that comes with planning a wedding and enjoy the process…trust the vendors you are working with. Most importantly, remember that the day is about you as a couple and to not be stressed out about the little things; as long as you both say ‘I Do’ at the end of it all, then it will all be worth it!”
