CAPTIVAted Florida

A 90-minute drive from Fort Myers, through the city, over the bridge, across two small islands and at the furthest point of Captiva Island, you will discover South Seas Island Resort. Situated at the tip of the island, this resort boasts both bay views and oceanfront amenities on the Gulf of Mexico.

South Seas Island Resort is an expansive property that offers activities and accommodations for both couples and large families alike. Formerly part of the largest key lime estate in Florida, it is so massive that most guests find themselves renting golf carts to traverse back and forth. The resort offers a full menu in terms of guest accommodations, ceremony and reception venues and activities for guests of all ages – making this property a top choice for U.S. destinations.

The resort offers traditional hotel rooms, condominium options and even beachfront house rentals for larger parties. Multiple lodging options makes planning for a destination couple a breeze. It also allows guests to choose which price point best meets their budget. For your VIP guests, the resort also offers yacht and boat harbor privileges with full hook ups and short stays for those that prefer to dock-in for your event. If the season is right, many manatee find safe harbor at the resort and sightings are plentiful.

Many of the historical buildings from the days as a key lime estate remain on the property, providing a setting that is classic and idyllic. A reception could be hosted just off the lawn in a true plantation-style building with indoor, patio or rooftop space. An oceanfront cabana boasts the feel of a beach luau, ideal for rehearsal dinners or more casual nuptials. Sunset ceremonies on either of the two golf courses at the resort provide a rich backdrop.

The true value in hosting your destination wedding at South Seas Island Resort are the endless activities on property to help keep everyone busy for their entire stay. The short list includes 2 1/2 miles of white sand beach (which affords some incredible shelling opportunities), Skully’s (where the little ones can be left to partake in scheduled activities), Sanibel Sea School (which provides a platform for learning and hands-on experience with the ocean), painting and photography classes, and full spa offerings at Kay Casperson Lifestyle Spa.

I found myself driving from end-to-end of the property on my own golf cart during my stay. I stopped to take in the ocean, slowly admiring the beauty of the property and just indulging in the sun and warm breeze. I even caught myself with a casual smile on my face that I found hard to get rid of. It was true beauty and relaxation, all wound-up in this single destination.
