Fantasy meets luxury at Château Monfort, an enchanting Italian honeymoon and wedding destination in the heart of Milan. This five-star Relais & Châteaux has 77 rooms and suites, each decorated to evoke a famous opera, ballet or fairytale, such as Madame Butterfly (colorful butterflies) The Nutcracker (wooden nutcrackers) and Cinderella (massive pumpkin poufs). Some rooms have four-poster beds, huge soaking tubs and curved lounging sofas. Others have fanciful wallpaper and regency décor - a nod to the Netflix series Bridgerton.
For couples eager to tie the knot, the hotel’s Mezzanotte Lounge Bar, with its rainbow-colored furnishings and dramatic domed skylight, makes a perfect gathering place for a ceremony or reception. Another option is Sala Incantesimo, which has a travertine marble floor, decorative curved walls and a state-of-the-art audio and lighting system. Sala delle Segrete offers a cozy wine-cave feel for smaller groups, complete with a vaulted red-brick ceiling and wrought-iron lanterns. Rubacuori Restaurant also has various intimate spaces and features local specialties, such as saffron-scented risotto Milanese and braised beef cheeks over polenta.
For couples and wedding parties eager to unwind and relax, Château Monfort has a fitness center and spa. The latter has a sauna, Turkish bath and Spa Suite, where you and yours can enjoy treatments in a secluded, private setting.
Off-property, Milan offers much to explore, including its many designer stores and boutiques. Some of the most prestigious lie in the Quadrilatero d’Oro (golden rectangle). In addition to high-end fashion houses, like Armani, Gucci, Prada and Versace, you’ll find stores selling exquisite jewelry, handbags and shoes. Don’t miss the stunning glass and iron-domed shopping arcade Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II (circa 1877), which also contains high-end stores and an upper levels where you can sip Spritzes overlooking the famous Duomo di Milano. This must-see gothic marble cathedral dates back to 1386 and has panoramic views across the city from its rooftop.
Not far from the Duomo lies the artsy Brera district. Composed of narrow streets lined with cafes, restaurants and artisanal boutiques. This neighborhood also houses the Pinacoteca di Brera museum, which is well worth a visit. Packed with medieval and Renaissance masterpieces, it also displays “The Kiss,” a profoundly sensuous painting by artist Francesco Hayez.
Should you wish to adventure beyond Milan, Château Monfort offers several signature experiences in partnership with BMW. One itinerary whisks you down to the French Riviera. Another transports you to the northern lake region, while the third takes you to Florence, Venice and Rome. However, if you choose to stay put, do book a night at Teatro alla Scala. Since it opened its doors in 1778, this world-famous opera house has been offering operatic tales of romance, just like the one you and your beloved are creating in real life.
