Romance seekers looking to canoodle under a ribbon of clear blue skies and sink their toes in diamond-dusted sands will adore St. Kitts. While daylight illuminates the island’s considerable natural assets, it is in the deep dark of night when St. Kitts is truly lit for love. Artist Rosey Cameron Smith recalls crying the first time she saw the night sky when she moved to the island from Scotland 35 years ago. “You just lie down on the beach and the moon comes up right plump in the middle of the sky over the ocean,” says Smith.
“St. Kitts is untouched, unspoiled and secluded," says Lavern Stevens, Public Relations Manager at St. Kitts Marriott Resort. "A laid-back atmosphere, numerous secluded beaches with waters of the deepest blue, infused with year-round sunshine makes it the perfect setting for romance.” While little light pollution creates the ideal ambience for nocturnal romance under shining stars, there’s an abundance of ways to monkey around in daylight in St. Kitts.
While I enjoyed the colorful magic of watching batik tapestries being created and strolling through the lovely botanical garden, the thrill of zip-lining across the fertile rainforest and climbing almost 4,000 feet to the top of Mt. Liamuiga made my heart beat the fastest. Other favorite island excursions included a trip to Brimstone Hill Fortress and a catamaran ride to the sister island of Nevis.
There are a bouquet of ways to tie the knot, from intimate beachside vow exchanges, to lavish ceremonies. “We work step-by-step with the happy couple to ensure every detail of their dream wedding is taken care of and at the passing of that special day there is nothing left but beautiful memories,” says Jamielah Fleming, Wedding Coordinator at St. Kitts Marriott Resort.
Getting to St. Kitts from New York is an easy four hours and 15 minutes on non-stop flights. The fastest total travel time from Los Angeles, with stops, is about 11 hours. Once you arrive, you will be instantly enamored with its gracious people, lovely land and fresh food.
"The agricultural industry on the island continues to grow and we support it by purchasing items from the local farmers which are organically grown," says St. Kitts Marriott Resort Executive Chef, William Stringfellow. "Whether it is Nevisian greens, Kittitian cucumbers, juicy tomatoes, sweet bananas or ripe plantains, you are sure to find locally grown ingredients in our dishes.”
Toasting to good times and fun in the sun is on the menu every day. St. Kitts is a great spot to get married, enjoy your honeymoon or simply steal a kiss under a canopy of twinkling stars.
