When Austin and Alexa bumped into each other at a mutual friend’s birthday party, it was love at first sight. Their chemistry was undeniable and their love for each other grew stronger. After seven years of dating, Austin finally popped the question, and he and Alexa began creating their dreamy tropical wedding in Maui.
“When we got engaged in 2020 we weren’t sure how the world was going to be in 2022. So, we said ‘at least we’ll be in the most special place in the world,’’’ the couple says.
Alexa and Austin both grew up visiting Maui on family vacations. When they started dating the couple made it their vacation place as well.
“We knew we wanted to get married in Maui since it’s our favorite island, and when we were finalizing the venues Olowalu Plantation House ticked all of our boxes off: private, beautiful and next to the ocean,” the couple says.
As an Event Manager herself, Alexa tells us she was extremely picky on who to hire as a wedding coordinator. Several interviews later, the bride met Erica of Couture Events and knew she found the perfect match.
"She has so many great relationships with all the vendors I wanted so it created an extremely seamless experience hiring them for our wedding," the couple says.
Alexa and Austin's next task would be to book a trip from their home in Tennessee to the destination where they would finally tie the knot. But to say "I do" just how they envisioned, the couple lined up a handfull of meetings to align with their vendors and smooth out the details.
"Erica knew how important food was to us and introduced us to the very best, Cutting Edge Catering. Austin and I had a private tasting in Chef Brian’s test kitchen and were BLOWN away by the food and level of detail he crafted with his menu for us. We also had a floral appointment to meet Mandy of Mandy Grace Designs, which also DID NOT disappoint. Mandy and her team are so unbelievably talented and after talking to her and visiting her at her office, Austin and I knew we were in the best hands. My vision was not easy to do and Mandy didn’t even flinch!"
After months of coordinating with vendors and guests, Alexa and Austin had their sights set on tying the knot with their closest friends and family in beautiful Maui, Hawaii.
“Having a smaller wedding allowed us to spend more time with everyone and it was like a family friend reunion/vacation. Truly it was the best of both worlds and more intimate, we spent quality time with everyone,” the couple says.
Other couples planning a destination wedding might want to heed this advice from Austin and Alexa: “Soak it all in. It goes by way too fast. Make sure to step out and have a moment with only the two of you.”
