A Dreamy Desert Elopement

This Washington D.C. couple began planning an at-home wedding, but quickly realized they were losing sight of what was most important: each other. “Brad and I first wanted to have our wedding where we live…but then realized all of the stress that comes with planning a wedding – I was just overwhelmed and felt as if I was planning a wedding which was no longer ‘us,’” says the bride, Laura. “I loved when we both decided to elope to Las Vegas, but I didn’t want all of the cheesiness that comes with it. That’s when I started researching other venues with a more natural setting and everything just came together so beautifully.”

Brad and Laura had a very clear vision of what they wanted for their Nevada desert elopement. “We wanted to have a vintage, desert, Wes Anderson-inspired wedding and communicated that with our photographer,” says the couple. “She gave us referrals to a couple of prop stylists and we fell in love with Nostalgia Resources. After sending [them] a Pinterest board for inspiration, they knew exactly and had everything we wanted.”

What resulted from the couple’s inspiration and hard work was a sunny, vintage wedding day. “I wanted a dreamy, natural desert setting with mountains in the background,” says Laura. “In the end, we saved a lot of money by having what we both wanted – a simple desert wedding with our closest friends.”

The couple has some well-earned words of advice for other couples contemplating having a destination wedding. “This is one of the biggest days of your lives, make your wedding about you and your husband and everything you want,” says the bride. “Don’t worry about pleasing everyone, this is your wedding – not theirs. Enjoy it!”
