Hiring a videographer is still slightly up-and-coming when it comes to destination weddings, but it’s something we strongly encourage! If a picture can say a thousand words – imagine what a video can do! To help you learn a little more about videography/cinematography and the process of hiring a videographer/cinematographer, we had our friends over at Deneemotion Boutique Wedding Cinema weigh-in. Below is a video they did of Aycan and Kerem’s destination wedding in Croatia. To give you a taste of how the couple’s wedding translated via photos and video, we’ve provided you with a sample of each. To learn more about videography, keep reading!
There is a difference between a wedding videographer and a wedding cinematographer: the latter doesn’t film with camcorders anymore, but rather with DSLR cameras or various equipment to make the wedding video look like it’s a film in the cinema. In my opinion, the filmmaker should have some taste in music, fashion or design in order to produce a brilliant wedding video, not the boring short version of the day with cheesy music. Hence, it is extremely important nowadays to clarify which camera is going to be used on the wedding day. If it is a professional camcorder, then it is a no-no for two reasons: quality and obstruction. Who wants to have a videographer with a huge camera using it wherever it’s possible? Instead, cinematographers use different lenses allowing them to be literally invisible to the audience, yet producing a crispy sharp cinematic footage.
We’ve heard many stories of brides regretting not having a videographer, and the wedding day is all about these small details that will only exist in their ever changing memories, if they booked only a photographer. Wedding films are much more than just a bunch of photos with the sound. It is an investment in the future, a visual legacy that will last forever and will be passed from generation to
generation, accompanied by beautiful photos.
