Weddings, weddings, weddings.

Where would a wedding be without all those gorgeous blooms to bedeck the bridal party, surround the happy couple as they exchange their vows, create a perfect backdrop for the photographs and enhance the ambiance for their wedding reception? 

Unless a bride has to have a specific flower due to a sentimental reason or it just has to be “that flower,” we recommend working with whatever is going to be in season at the time of the wedding.

Depending on where the bride is geographically located, the seasonality of flowers may vary slightly. Roses, spray roses, hydrangea and carnations are considered the wedding “go to” basics, will never go out of fashion, are usually reasonably priced and are readily available year round. Tropical flowers, such as birds of paradise, ginger and pincushions are a non-traditional look for brides (but again are readily available year round).

Dependent on your source, the month of January can range from the ranunculus, which is a beautiful full flower that comes in a fabulous range of color, to the lotus blossom or kangaroo paw. February is the zinnia and the lily, which comes in an oriental variety, the more traditional white Casablanca and the calla lilies. March is the freesia, a delicate and fragrant flower, the orchid and the luxurious gardenia, which possesses a memorable scent.

April is the tulip, which comes in an amazing variety including the stunning parrot tulip and French tulip, lisianthus, as well as the tuberose. A peony is the flower for May; they are gorgeous but temperamental and seemingly have become the “It” flower for weddings everywhere, alongside the sweet pea. June is the fun and fanciful gerbera daisy, a real girly girl flower and again available in bright and vibrant colors with hyacinth and camellias.

The summer months also offer a range of wild flowers beloved by the more Bohemian bride such as the sunflower, which is a great choice for August along with stunning cherry blossoms. September’s choice returns to both hyacinth and tulips and October is perfect for delphiniums as well as stock, another fragrant and robust flower. November is a great month for tall elegant calla lilies and an unusual conical white flower called The Star of Bethlehem.  December provides the option of great holiday flowers such as the amaryllis or even better – the incomparable David Austin roses – a much sought after look by brides.
