Charles Smith is a former rock band manager turned winemaker. Owning the largest winemaker-owned winery in Washington State,  his brand, Charles Smith Wines, is distributed in all 50 states and 23 countries. Smith himself has been named the 2014 Wine Enthusiast Wine Maker of the Year, “Winemaker of the Year” by Food & Wine in 2009, and Winemaker of the Year by Seattle magazine in 2010.

The award winning winemaker has offered up his recommendations for the best wines to serve at your wedding reception. A mixture of red, white and sparkling, this list provides four hand selected special and affordable bottles.

  • Riesling – Kung Fu Girl ($12): Crushed minerals run through the heart of this pure and satisfying Riesling. The aromas of white peach, lime leaves, Linden tree and crush stone echo in the palate with a long, fresh finish.
  • Merlot – Velvet Devil ($12): This little devil is wrapped in a velvet robe. Full with density and bursting with flavors: Dark fruit, cherry, blackberry. Brimming with cedar, pipe tobacco and earth.
  • Syrah – Boom Boom! ($15): Complexity, tannins inferior to none. Blackberry, boysenberry, dry-hung meat, white pepper, savory herbs, crushed granite.
  • Prosecco – SECCO Italian Bubbles ($15): Add sparkle to your nuptials. Grower-driven, vintage-dated, pure and fresh, SECCO Italian Bubbles is a new category of sparkling wine and includes sparkling chardonnay, rose/pinot noir and moscato!

For the couple who enjoys wine not just on their wedding day, adding a wine club membership is a great gift idea for a registry. Charles Smith Wines offers the Rocket 88 Wine Club. Packages start at $99, with multiple membership levels available.
