On the coast of Laguna Beach at the Montage Laguna Beach Resort & Spa, a destination-themed bridal shower came to life. Jeannie Savage of Details Details worked in conjunction with several other talented wedding vendors to create a styled shoot to show just how to pull off a fanciful, yet classic bridal shower for any destination bride.
“The location was a large inspiration for the shoot,” recalls Jeannie. “I wanted aqua to be the main color while adding in a contrasting color such as coral to make the shower more fun and whimsical and not so formal.” With the Laguna coastline in the background of a vibrant color palette, the goal of exuding whimsy and fun was absolutely accomplished.
The paper details were created by Rachel Baker of Rock Paper Scissors Design. Paper scroll invitations with a vintage map design were delicately placed in a mother-of-pearl box and happened to be one of Jeannie’s favorite details.
Although not all hostesses have the same budget it would cost to recreate something of this caliber, Jeannie had some good advice on how to make a solid design statement without breaking the bank. “Stick with a color palette…one that’s not complicated. Colors like green, orange and yellow are widely available in floral and other items like invitations and paper napkins are easy to match.”
Having an attention-grabbing dessert table is a great way to create a focal point while bringing in color and adding a dramatic feature. Here you’ll notice the varied heights of cake stands and serving platters help create some interest, while grouping colors creates a bold look.
When it comes to satisfying the guest-of-honor, Jeannie offered three questions to ask the bride. “Does she want a lunch, afternoon tea or dinner event, as this would affect the menu. Second, does she have a theme in mind? Some girls, for example, have always wanted a lingerie shower. You never know, so it’s better to ask. And third, ask what to avoid. The hostess may not know everyone on the guest list. For example, will children be attending, etc.?”
A successful bridal shower doesn’t have to be expensive, but does need a central focus – making the bride feel special before her big day. Do this and success will be had.
