It is a given that destination weddings give you more bang for your buck, but our brides at TravelBash say the best part about destination weddings are every single one is different and it gives them a chance to showcase their style and personality.

As the owner of TravelBash, a boutique destination travel and event company specializing in destination weddings, honeymoons and special occasion travel, I am always helping our clients build a roadmap for their special wedding weekend. As a former destination bride myself, I know all the decisions that must be made and want to help others’ vision come to life.

Here are some of our favorite destination wedding tips – from advice and apps to resorts that are sure to make your special day even better!

1. Take A Site Visit
Many resorts offer special promotions and discounted pricing for brides looking to book. Take advantage of this perk. This will allow you to compare several different must haves on your wedding list.

2. Think About Your Location and Your Guests
Is the location easy to get to? Affordable? Kid-friendly? Equipped for large groups? All-inclusive?

3. Weather: the Risk is REAL!
For top Caribbean locations outside the hurricane belt, check out the ABC’s (Aruba, Bonaire & Curacao). For more on weather, check out our travel diary post “Top Honeymoon Destinations and The Best Time to Visit Them.”

4. Use Technology!
There are tons of wedding websites and apps out there; our favorite is Appy Couple, a wedding website and app for both you and your guests. For all those Pinterest lovers, check out our post on “How to Pin for Your Upcoming Destination Wedding.”

5. Find an Epic Venue
TravelBash has a major crush on Karisma Hotels & Resorts. They have hotels in Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe. We also love the Hyatt Ziva & Hyatt Zilara brands right now. Their properties are beautiful!

6. Don’t Skip the Travel Insurance!
This tip goes alone with #3. Most honeymoon couples spend on average close to $5,000 on their special trip, which means it is imperative to protect this investment and the peace of mind is totally worth it.

7. Don’t Forget to Personalize Your Event
Make your guests feel special with small added touches like welcome bags with local delicacies from the area, handwritten “thank you’s” in their welcome letter and gifts that are unique.

8. Keep Track of Your Budget
Costs can really add up from little gifts here, flowers there, extra design, parties, travel expenses, etc. This is why budgeting apps and tools can be beneficial. We even advise our brides to open a separate wedding fund account, that way they can know what is going in and out at all times.

9. Forgo the Traditional Wedding Registry
Who needs more stuff? Check out honeymoon registries like Wanderable, Honeyfund and Traveler’s Joy.

10. Don’t Try to Do It All Yourself
Hire a pro! We cannot stress this enough. This is your day; wouldn’t it feel good just to show up? TravelBash is here so you can do just that. We handle the details and you manage the cocktails.

At TravelBash, our mission is to inspire people to celebrate more through travel and human connection. Learn more by visiting our site travel-bash.com. Make sure to subscribe to our newsletter to enter a drawing to win a free honeymoon by Karisma Hotels & Resorts!
