Your wedding is the first event you will host as a couple. Where you have your wedding, the theme and the experience will begin your brand. When your guests return home, they should have the feeling that the wedding was perfect for you, that it expressed who you are as a family.
Setting the Tone
While destination weddings look easy (they are usually smaller affairs), they take a lot of planning. The first thing you will need to decide is the mood of the wedding. Do you want it to be sophisticated, chic and understated or does a beach wedding feel more your style? Does a rustic outdoor wedding or a vineyard wedding sound perfect for you or do you love the idea of a Vegas chapel with a few close friends? This is your big event. It is all about you and what you enjoy, so be honest with yourselves and do not try to fit into anyone else’s mold.
Here are some primary concerns that you must address before you can begin your plans:
- Who will be attending the wedding and how far are they expected to travel?
- How much time will you need to book for set-up and cleanup of the area?
- How much will the wedding, travel, accommodations, activities and other responsibilities cost?
- Time of year – climate and weather patterns matter!
The Wedding Attire
Of course, it is important to have your gown and the bridesmaid’s dresses ordered well in advance. Be considerate of the bridal party when you are asking them to travel and bring with them special clothing.
While experts such as Azazie can take care of supplying the gowns and dresses, sending them across the world could be a challenge. If you are planning a destination wedding, consider bridesmaids dresses that are easy to take care of. Keep the climate of the destination in mind while choosing the bridal gown. A tea-length dress is perfect for any outdoor wedding or beach wedding. They are also easier to travel with and require less care. Also, be careful with the selection of shoes you choose for the bridal party. It is very difficult to walk on the beach or outdoors in 4-inch heels. The groom and his groomsmen can go for the full formal attire if the venue demands it, but for destination weddings, a more casual look is often acceptable.
Take a Planning Trip
You simply cannot properly plan for a destination wedding blindly. If there is any way possible, take a planning trip before the wedding.
Share Financial Burdens
Sometimes your friends are not financially in a position where they can afford going across the country or the globe for your dream wedding. If this is the case, add a section to your Plumfund site to assist them financially. Having your best friend beside you on the day of your wedding is a wonderful gift.
If your friends simply cannot attend due to family, financial or work responsibilities, allow them the grace of understanding. We all would love to take a week-long trip to Europe, but sometimes it is just not achievable at certain stages in our lives.
Make It Happen
With planning, an open mind and the help of quality bridal vendors, you can plan a destination wedding that meets all your expectations. So, get started. A great destination wedding takes a lot of time and effort to pull together. Begin today!
