You finally found “the one” and are ready to pop the question. Saying those four little words can be challenging – even for all those hopeless romantics out there. You want to plan something the love of your life will never forget, so you’re going to have to put a lot of thought into it – no pressure.
Don’t worry! We’ve got you covered. Here are five tips for creating the most magical moment:
1. Pick the Place
A place with sentimental meaning is always a great option. This could be where you had your first date, where you had your first kiss or even where you met! It could also just be a place where you two lovebirds frequent – like your favorite coffee joint, bookstore, restaurant or park.
2. Consider Your Fiancé
Be sure to think about your fiancé when planning your happily ever after. Is he or she more private or outgoing? Before deciding to pop the question in a public place, consider how your partner might feel in that environment. Proposals tend to draw attention from bystanders, so keep this in mind!
3. Scout the Location
It’s important to visit the desired proposal spot ahead of time. This will give you some time to plan out where the proposal will happen, so you aren’t blindly walking into what may be the most important moment of your life.
If you’re planning on having a photographer on site to capture the proposal, be sure to think about where they will be stationed. It’s important the photographer remains hidden so your soon-to-be Mr. or Mrs. doesn’t get a sneaky suspicion.
4. Go All Out
The common saying “less is more” is true for most things, but not for a proposal! There is no such thing as a plan that’s too complex. In the age of social media and viral videos, elaborate marriage proposals complete with original songs, choreographed dances and flash mobs are growing evermore popular.
5. Do Your Research
You want to steer clear of any interferences, so it’s important to do some research ahead of time to be sure there aren’t scheduled events happening at the desired location – especially if you’re hoping to have the place to yourselves. For example, you don’t want to assume you will have privacy in Chicago’s Grant Park when Lollapalooza is happening. Call around, look online and make sure your desired venue and date is free of conflict.
Once he or she has said “yes,” here are our top ten picks for the most photogenic places around the country for engagement photos:
